1. What is the Academy?
KEDS Academy is a programme established by the Kosovo Electricity Distribution and Supply Network J.S.C. aiming to professionally further educate students of the bearers of the higher education institutions in Kosovo and technical secondary level schools by providing practical knowledge and expertise through training and internships. The programme aims at decreasing the level of unemployment in Kosovo by offering long lasting employment opportunities for the programme participants.
2. Who can participate at the KEDS Academy programme?
Currently, the application procedure is only open for senior students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Public University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” and students of the accredited technical secondary schools in the Republic of Kosovo.
3. Who are the programme partners?
KEDS Academy is a part of the Kosovo Electricity Distribution and Supply Network J.S.C. (hereafter - KEDS). Prior to the start of the programme KEDS has signed cooperation agreements with the Public University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” and with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo. A standing cooperating agreement is also signed with the Bogazici University of Turkey with the goal of exchanging academic knowledge and expertise.
4. What programmes and training does the Academy offer?
The training programme and the curricula of the Academy is divided in two – the one targeting the secondary school students and the KEDS Leadership Academy, targeting university students. The programmes aim at building practical knowledge and leadership skills with the goal of preparing the students for the job market and for further employment at KEDS. 5. How many students are enrolled in a one year period?
In 2014, the Academy will be hosting the total number of 50 students (20 students from the Public University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina and the rest 30 from the technical secondary schools of the Republic of Kosovo).
6. Who teaches at the KEDS Academy?
Highly qualified professionals and experts of the Kosovo Electricity Distribution and Supply Network J.S.C. will be teaching and lecturing at the KEDS Academy training programmes. In addition, academic staff of the Lifelong Learning Center of the Bogazici University in Turkey will be conducting lectures through online electronic methods and through visits.
7. Does the programme include internships?
At the end of the training programme, the students are obliged to do an internship at the Kosovo Electricity Distribution and Supply Network J.S.C. The internships are evaluated and developed according the local Kosovan legal framework. KEDS will be offering temporary employment contracts for the students that fulfill all the criteria’s and that have followed all the courses. The temporary contracts can lead to permanent employment at KEDS.
8. Where will the lectures take place and when will the programme start?
The lectures will initially take place at the Sirius Hotel training rooms until the final location within KEDS is set and decided upon. A detailed lecture and training schedule and timetable will be distributed amongst participants prior to the start of the programme. The first edition of the programme will start on the 2nd of February 2014.
9. What is the participation fee?
No application and participation fee is applied for participants. The programme is for free and is open to the above mentioned targeted groups.
10. Are there any extracurricular activities within the programme?
The Academy will be offering extracurricular activities to its participants (i.e. cultural, social, philanthropic etc.). Moreover, a special visit to Calik and Limak in Turkey and to the Bogazici University Lifelong Learning Center will be offered and made available for the best performing participants in order to further promote the professional and academic exchange between the participants and the respective institutions.
11. Will participants receive any certificate at the end of the programme?
All participants will receive a certificate at the end of the training and the internship programme. In addition, the senior students of the Public University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” will receive 12 ECTS credits according to the rules and the regulations of the University by completing the internship programme and the graduation thesis in cooperation with KEDS experts and other project partners.
